Instructions for the beta version of Factitious

I know, you just want to play the game!

Among many other things, a new feature has been so that Bob can isolate a group of "tuning" players from the results for the "testing" players (who will just mindlessly bang on things with caring too much about their score), as well as my own development testing.

As a result, there are different URLs for these different 'game categories' of people to play the game; and you should NOT give the same URL to everyone!

ONLY give the URL which is appropriate for people in the given 'game category'!

Those URLs are:

After we have done the first round of 'tuning', we can create a new URL for additional "tuners" if needed.

Reporting and Statistics

Hardly makes sense to adjust the game parameters unless there is some reporting of how it affects player's outcomes. That information can be found at http://factitious.chasbrown.com/beta/#/stats_page

For each of the 'game category' groups mentioned above (and some others), select the statistics for that group using the drop-down menu at top. This will display game statistics for that group (number of games played, average score, so on and and so forth) for each of the game types (easy1, easy2, etc.).

Also shown, for users in the selected category, is a list of all Articles which have been defined, and how often they are correctly answered (or even ever viewed).

Remember, the "dev" category is probably pretty useless - it's just the collection of all previous games, which were often just a monkey-bashing exercise. Of most interest will be 'tuning' category, once we start to get data from that group.

As a reminder, you should (Bob and Maggie, and anyone else you point to the site) should consider yourselves as "testers", and only use the TESTING URL I gave above.

Changing Game Play Settings

For easy1, easy2, medium1, medium2, hard1, and hard2 games, you can adjust the various game parameters at http://factitious.chasbrown.com/beta/#/settings.

Select the type of game you want to edit from the drop-down menu at top; don't forget to save your settings. Only limited "foot-shooting" protection here, so be careful when you make changes, especially to the game round list.

For my development needs there are also easy_std, medium_std, and hard_std game types, so I can make the game length ridiculously short for testing purposes and so on. Don't mess with them, please!
